BEE Credentials
One of Medu Capital’s primary objectives is to promote the implementation of a scorecard approach to BEE. This objective will be achieved by ensuring that Medu Capital has strong BEE credentials and by influencing and promoting a scorecard approach to BEE in portfolio companies.
Medu Capital supports a scorecard approach as a means of achieving the objectives of broad-based BEE. The company has successfully implemented policies on direct empowerment, human resource development and indirect empowerment.
Some of the significant outcomes of Medu Capital’s BEE policies are:
- 64% direct and indirect black ownership:
51% of the direct shareholding is owned by Black South Africans.
13% indirect black shareholding (26% of Brait is owned by a broad-based BEE consortium) - 50% of the board of directors are Black South Africans
- the executive management are Black South Africans
- Medu Capital has been providing financial assistance to a university student over the last two years
- Medu Capital plays a significant role in promoting the implementation of BEE in portfolio companies
